What is this?
This annual survey, run by the Write the Docs community, gathers data about salaries for people working in documentation and related fields around the world. We hope it helps our community determine appropriate salary ranges, provides a benchmark for negotiations, and informs employment-related decision-making.
Your answers are anonymous. In 2025 the median time to complete was 10 minutes (17 minutes for those answering as both employee and contractor), and 78% of respondents finished within 15.
Taken it before? Please complete it again even if your salary hasn’t changed — medians are calculated from the current year’s data only.
The survey closes on 31 January 2027.
Who can participate?
We encourage everyone working in areas related to documentation to complete this survey — no matter what country you live in, what level of experience you have, or what industry you’re in.
The questions are for people of all employment types: full-time or part-time, permanent or contract, employee or freelance.
What else do I need to know?
All responses are completely anonymous. Most questions are required, but some have an “I’d prefer not to answer” option. To protect the privacy of our community, we don’t publish statistics for any demographic with fewer than 10 respondents.
Data gathered is used by the Write the Docs team for our report only, and is not shared with any third party.
Results will be made available — for everyone, for free — as soon as processing is complete.
